In Russia, men of military age face extreme situations, including being stopped on the streets, forced to sign military contracts and sent to the combat front. These stories of fear, resilience and uncertainty are shared by a significant part of the Russian male population of military age.
The war started by President Vladimir Putin four and a half years ago cut short the expectations and dreams of many of these citizens, placing them before a life in survival mode.
Three young Russians spoke to EL PERIÓDICO, coming from a foreign country. Among them are people who had been called up, deserters and those who did not want to risk being forcibly enlisted. The names are fictitious to protect their identity.
These young people explained how they managed to circumvent the risks associated with military service in the Russian army.
