Alentejo was present at the Staysure English Legends, a tournament held between 28 and 30 August at Chart Hills Golf Club in the English county of Kent. The Alentejo Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (ARPTA) participated in the Destination Pavilion, a new space created in the public area of the tournament that brought together six international destinations, including Marbella, Barbados, Cambodia, Cyprus and the Cayman Islands. During the three days of competition, the region presented to players, fans and potential visitors a tourist offering that combined information about golf courses, accommodation, gastronomy, wines, heritage and nature.
The participation in Kent had an important professional dimension, with ARPTA establishing contacts with tour operators and other professionals linked to golf travel. The goal is to increase Alentejo's presence in the programmes commercialised by these professionals and position the region as a destination for multi-day stays. The United Kingdom holds particular importance in this strategy due to the tradition of golf-related travel and the existence of a public accustomed to seeking destinations that combine course quality with climate, accommodation and other tourist experiences.
The region also used the tournament to promote the Portugal Legends Championship, which will hold its first edition between 30 October and 1 November 2026, at Pinheirinho Golf Course in Comporta. Part of the Staysure Legends Tour calendar, the competition is expected to bring together former Major winners, Ryder Cup figures and former European Tour champions. Tourism of Alentejo will be an official tourism partner of the championship.
According to José Manuel Santos, president of Tourism of Alentejo, the region has conditions to grow in the golf segment, especially outside summer. The strategy aims to establish Alentejo as an integrated destination, capable of combining the practice of the sport with the landscape, hospitality, culture and gastronomy of the region.
