Future elevator will have a "new system" to be designed after international competition

The future Gloria elevator, in Lisbon, will have a "new system" that will guarantee "all safety", according to information released. The project foresees a public international design competition by the end of March 2027, with the equipment installation planned for 2029.

The president of Carris, Rui Lopo, stated that it is no longer possible to maintain historic equipment that operated without substantial modifications until January 1, 1986. According to the official, they are facing a new solution in terms of construction process.

The Gloria elevator is a historic equipment in Lisbon, whose operation was suspended and which requires a completely renewed approach to guarantee safety and compliance with current standards. The new project represents a significant modernization of the traditional Lisbon means of transport.
