Carris expects to have the new Elevador da Glória completed in the first half of 2029. The company's president guarantees that the new structure will be "safer" and "will comply with all" safety standards in force.
The original elevator was destroyed and, according to the official, it is not possible to recover what existed. For this reason, the goal is to have "a new installation" totally different from the previous one.
To start the project, Carris will launch, between January and March 2027, an international tender for the design and construction of the new elevator. This procedure will allow selecting the best proposal for the development of the project and execution of the work.
The new Elevador da Glória is one of Lisbon's historic transport systems and its reconstruction represents a significant investment for the city, aiming to restore an important means of transport for residents and tourists.
