The Police Professional Union Association (ASPP), the largest police union in Portugal, announced new demonstrations scheduled for September 10, marking PSP's return to protest. The decision comes after the breakdown of negotiations with the Ministry of Internal Administration and the national directorate of PSP.
The main cause of the conflict relates to the lack of operational resources in police stations, a situation the union considers unsustainable for the daily functioning of police forces. The ASPP accuses the authorities of not addressing the operational deficiencies that have been affecting police stations across the country.
This is not the first confrontation between ASPP and the Ministry of Internal Administration. The union has been pressing for better working conditions and greater investment in the means made available to officers, without its claims being adequately addressed.
The September stoppage represents a clear warning to the ministry that the police class is willing to intensify its fight if no concrete progress is made in the negotiations. ASPP expects the Ministry to respond to the demands before the date set for the protests.
