Business owners demand that the Azores Government acknowledge the "scale of the problem" in tourism

Açoriano Oriental31 August 2026 at 17:02

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada issued an alert about the tourism situation in the Azores, stating that the decline recorded during the high season reveals a "loss of competitiveness" of the region.

The CCIPD demanded that the Regional Government of the Azores recognize the "scale of the problem" affecting the tourism sector, suggesting that authorities are not giving due attention to the situation.

The alert comes at a critical moment for the regional economy, as tourism is a decisive sector for the Azores, especially during the high season.

The CCIPD's position reflects the concern of the business sector with the competitive capacity of the region, which appears to be losing ground to other tourist destinations.
