Sánchez on Ayuso's penthouse: "He wanted to buy himself a fancy penthouse with the madrileños' money"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General31 August 2026 at 16:47

Pedro Sánchez commented on the controversy involving Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the purchase of a property by the Community of Madrid. The Spanish prime minister stated: "It appears that this lady wanted to buy a luxury apartment with the Madrileños' money."

According to the regional Executive, the funds were intended to house the President's offices during renovations of the Puerta de Sol building. However, the acquisition generated controversy and criticism from the central government.

Sánchez's statement occurred in the context of a broader political dispute between the central government and the Community of Madrid, led by president Isabel Díaz Ayuso, of the People's Party.

Government reserves R$ 44.8 billion for parliamentary amendments in 2027

The Lula government reserved R$ 44.8 billion for parliamentary amendments in the 2027 Annual Budget Bill (PLOA), an increase of R$ 4 billion compared to the proposal for 2026. The amount is expected to be higher after Congressional approval, since in 2026, R$ 40.8 billion was reserved, but the approved amount reached R$ 50 billion. Mandatory amendments are those the government is obligated to pay, while non-mandatory ones depend on available space in the Budget. There are three types of amendments: individual, from state delegations, and from committees, each with its own rules for distribution and application.
