Equality will launch a "multidisciplinary unit specialized in violence" in Ceuta to protect women

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General31 August 2026 at 16:40

The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, appeared this Monday before Congress to report on her management of the humanitarian crisis that has been afflicting Ceuta since July 30. Redondo was the last minister to appear before the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, explains the situation next Thursday.

During her intervention, the minister explained that her department "does not have direct powers" in the exceptional situation that Ceuta is going through, but she still intervened "from the first moment" to ensure that the Government's response incorporated a "gender perspective".

Redondo highlighted that "the crisis does not affect all people equally" and that "displacements and the lack of safe spaces can exacerbate inequalities and specific risks for women". In this context, the Ministry of Equality will implement in Ceuta a "multidisciplinary unit specialized in violence" to protect women.
