348 participants traveled through Angra do Heroísmo in a night that combined sport, heritage and nature

Câmara Municipal de Angra do Heroísmo31 August 2026 at 16:19

The Angra By Night took place on Saturday, August 29th, in Angra do Heroísmo, and broke the participation record with 348 registered participants across the different categories of the event. The initiative, organized by the Athletic Association of Terceira Island in partnership with the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, featured two distances: the Angra By Night, with approximately 10 kilometres, and the Angra Mini, with approximately 6 kilometres. The start was given at Praça Velha, at 10:00 PM, with the finish at the same location.

The event provided participants with an experience that combined sport, heritage and nature, with a route that crossed iconic buildings and spaces of the city, including Jardim Duque da Terceira, the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, the Teatro Angrense, the City Hall, the Regional Directorate of Sports, the Military History Centre and the Municipal Pavilion. The route also integrated Monte Brasil and various streets of the historic centre, allowing entry and crossing through some of these spaces during the race.

The completion of the route was only possible thanks to the collaboration of the entities responsible for the different spaces crossed. The Forest Services of Terceira Island ensured the accompaniment of the race in the Monte Brasil area, contributing to the integration of this natural space into the route and to the safety of the event.

The Vice-President of the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Guido Teles, considered that the participation record demonstrates the growing prominence of the event and its capacity to provide a differentiating experience, combining sports practice with the discovery of the heritage and cultural spaces of the city. In the main race, Pedro Bartolomeu won among the men and Paula Cabral among the women, while in the Angra Mini the first classified were Sérgio Amaral and Elena Furk.
