Candidates for governor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD) and Douglas Ruas (PL), promised to expand the city's metro network if elected. Both participated in different agendas in the state capital.
At an event in downtown Rio, Paes praised the Gentileza Terminal, delivered during his last term as mayor, and stated that he intends to bring the model of integration between different modes of transportation to other cities in the state. The former mayor also said he intends to expand the metro network and reduce the ticket price, but did not inform what the new fare value would be.
Paes detailed specific plans, mentioning the expansion of Line 2 to Praça XV and of Line 3 toward Niterói, with the two lines meeting through a submerged tunnel over Guanabara Bay. He also advocated for ticket integration throughout the state.
The candidate explained that the Jaé system is a concession that the Rio city government controls, and that the state government would need to hold a bidding process to implement a similar system, something that, according to him, has never been done before.
