More campings and less Airbnb: the shift in tourist demand in Castellón

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General31 August 2026 at 15:21

Tourist demand in the province of Castellón changed direction this summer. The data shows a significant increase in guests at hotels and campings, reaching maximum levels, while tourist apartments recorded a sharp decline, reaching minimum levels.

This shift in accommodation trends reflects a change in the preferences of tourists visiting the region. Travelers seem to be increasingly opting for traditional accommodation modalities, such as campings and hotels, over tourist apartments.

The province of Castellón, in the Valencian Community, is thus witnessing a reconfiguration of the tourism sector. The growth of the camping and hotel segment clearly contrasts with the decline of the tourist apartment market during the summer season.

Anacom fines Nos 350 thousand euros for Playce. Meo and Vodafone had been fined in April

Anacom applied a fine of 350 thousand euros to NOS for unilateral modification of contractual conditions related to the Playce functionality, an advertising platform on automatic TV recordings that affected 821,641 subscribers. The operator did not communicate to customers, with a minimum advance notice of 30 days, the introduction of mandatory advertising, violating consumer information rules. This sanction comes after Anacom had already fined Meo and Vodafone for the same reason, and after the Competition Authority had applied fines of 13.35 million euros to the three operators and Accenture for anti-competitive agreement in subscription television and in advertising on television recordings. NOS has already contested the decision.
