Overnights in the tourist accommodation sector in Portugal increased 1.5% to 46.5 million in the first seven months of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the National Statistics Institute. Total sector revenues grew 5.3%, reaching 4,073.2 million euros, while room revenues, which refer only to overnights, rose 4.9% to 3,107.4 million euros.
In the month of July, the sector recorded 3.4 million guests and 9.6 million overnights, with growth of 1.0% and 2.1% respectively. July's total revenues reached 923.7 million euros and room revenues 734.4 million euros, corresponding to growth of 4.9% in both indicators. The average stay was fixed at 2.83 nights, the first increase after three consecutive months of declines.
Revenues were mainly concentrated in the Algarve, which accounted for 35.0% of the total, followed by Greater Lisbon with 21.2% and the North with 14.1%. All regions recorded increases in revenues, except Greater Lisbon, where total revenues fell 2.0%. The highest growths were recorded in the Alentejo and the Setúbal Peninsula.
The United Kingdom remained as the main source market, with a share of 18.4% and growth of 3.0%. Spain was the second source market with 10.8% and the German market ranked third with 9.3%. However, the North American market recorded a decline of 3.1% in July, the second since the pandemic, although in the year-to-date it still accumulates growth of 3.4%.
