The village of Arronches hosted from August 21 to 30 the 8th edition of the Route of Tapas, an initiative promoted by the local Municipality. This gastronomic event celebrates a tradition with deep historical roots linked to the old Portuguese taverns.
The Route of Tapas aims mainly to showcase this socialization practice that dates back to ancient times. The taverns were, particularly during periods of obscurantism under the prevailing regime, the main meeting places for both rural and urban populations.
In these establishments, at the end of a working day, customers would drink their glass of wine accompanied by the most varied snacks. The tapas served on these occasions did not need elaborate presentations, being prepared with the ingredients that were available.
