Pamela Guillen, 40 years old, suffered a serious accident during a ride on the X2 roller coaster, at Six Flags Magic Mountain park, in California, United States, in July. The attraction is considered one of the most extreme in the world, with seats that spin 360 degrees independently from the tracks, while the train reaches speeds of 128 km/h on steep drops.
Pamela hit her head repeatedly against the headrest during the ride and lost consciousness after disembarking. She woke up two weeks later, already at the hospital, and commented on the experience saying that "you go in as yourself and, when you come back, it's a medical emergency. I still can't process that."
Surgeons managed to save her life by removing part of her skull to relieve the pressure caused by the hemorrhage. The severe injury left permanent sequelae: Pamela had to relearn how to walk and talk, and she currently depends on medication to prevent seizures.
Pamela recognizes being lucky to be alive after the incident. She was at the park to celebrate a 16th birthday when she decided to venture on the attraction.
