We have everything to go for a win-win, says Alckmin about the resumption of negotiations with the US

oglobo31 August 2026 at 13:42

Vice President Gerald Alckmin announced that trade negotiations with the United States will be resumed this Monday, after being suspended since July. The meeting will be virtual and will feature the participation of Minister Márcio Elias Rosa and the White House trade representative, Jamieson Greer.

Alckmin stated that there are no forbidden topics in the talks and highlighted that the tariffs imposed by the US are unjustifiable. According to him, both tariff and non-tariff issues are on the negotiation table.

Among the topics under discussion is the Redata project, related to data centers, which should be voted on during the concentrated legislative effort of the National Congress this week. The vice president expressed optimism by stating that there are conditions for a win-win agreement between the two countries.

Government reserves R$ 44.8 billion for parliamentary amendments in 2027

The Lula government reserved R$ 44.8 billion for parliamentary amendments in the 2027 Annual Budget Bill (PLOA), an increase of R$ 4 billion compared to the proposal for 2026. The amount is expected to be higher after Congressional approval, since in 2026, R$ 40.8 billion was reserved, but the approved amount reached R$ 50 billion. Mandatory amendments are those the government is obligated to pay, while non-mandatory ones depend on available space in the Budget. There are three types of amendments: individual, from state delegations, and from committees, each with its own rules for distribution and application.
