The first day of September will bring divided weather to mainland Portugal, with strong wind along the coast and temperatures that can exceed 30 degrees in the interior. The Luso Meteo forecast indicates that the Azores anticyclone continues to approach and strengthen over the Atlantic, but since the center of high pressure remains west of the territory, north and northwest circulation gains intensity, reinforcing the nortada, particularly during the afternoon.
The wind should blow from the northwest, generally light to moderate, but during the afternoon the wind may become moderate to strong on the western coast, with speeds between 25 and 35 km/h and gusts that can reach 55 km/h in the most exposed areas. In the interior, a slight rise in maximum temperatures is expected, with thermometers approaching 30 to 32 degrees in several locations, with higher values not ruled out in the southern interior. Along the coast, maximum temperatures should range between 20 and 25 degrees.
The morning should start with periods of very cloudy skies on the coast, especially along the western coastal strip, with clouds also appearing in some valleys and near the main rivers. This cloud cover should dissipate progressively during the morning, giving way to generally slightly cloudy skies during the afternoon, although some models suggest that low cloud cover may persist in parts of the West coast. Luso Meteo also does not rule out the possibility of localized drizzle in the West region during the morning.
This Tuesday marks the first day of the so-called meteorological autumn, which begins on September 1st. The nortada and lower temperatures along the coast may give the start of the new season a cooler appearance in some regions. However, according to Luso Meteo, this scenario should be temporary, with the weather changing again from Wednesday onwards.
