Overnight stays in Portugal's tourism accommodation sector increased by 1.5% to 46.5 million in the first seven months of the year, year-on-year, with total revenues rising by 5.3% to 4,073.2 million euros, according to data from the National Statistics Institute. In the month of July alone, the sector registered 3.4 million guests and 9.6 million overnight stays, with total revenues of 923.7 million euros.
Revenues were concentrated mainly in the Algarve, which accounted for 35% of total revenues, followed by Greater Lisbon with 21.2% and the North with 14.1%. All regions saw increases in revenues, with the exception of Greater Lisbon, where total revenues fell by 2%. The largest growths were recorded in the Alentejo and the Setúbal Peninsula.
The main emitting markets were the United Kingdom, with a share of 18.4% and growth of 3%, followed by Spain with 10.8% and Germany with 9.3%. The North American market registered a decrease of 3.1% in July, the second decline since the pandemic, although in cumulative terms for the first seven months it accumulated growth of 3.4%.
In July, the average revenue per available room stood at 104.3 euros and the average revenue per occupied room reached 154.9 euros. The average length of stay was 2.83 nights, the first increase after three consecutive monthly declines, and the net bed occupancy rate stood at 59.9%.
