An American official told Reuters that the United States did not target Kharg Island in attacks carried out during the night. The clarification came after Donald Trump posted on social media an AI-generated video in which he claimed that the important Iranian oil hub was being "blown to pieces."
Iran promptly responded to Trump's post. The executive director of the Iranian National Oil Company, Hamid Bovard, stated that operations on Kharg Island were not interrupted and that the situation on the island is calm and adequate. The country also categorically denied any suggestion that the island had been attacked.
Trump was directly criticized by the Iranian official. Bovard considered the tweets of the former American president as "ridiculous," reinforcing that there was no incident at the oil facility. The Trump administration had not officially commented on the case at the time of the news agency's publication.
