The Sete Sóis Sete Luas Festival returns to Mafra between September 4-6, bringing a multicultural program that includes circus arts, theater, world music and flamenco. Created over three decades ago, the festival maintains its vocation of dialogue between Mediterranean and Lusophone cultures, having had José Saramago as Honorary President for 18 years.
This year's edition features artists and musicians from Cape Verde, La Réunion, Italy, Morocco and Portugal. On September 4, at 9 PM, at Terreiro D. João V, Joan Català presents the circus arts show "Pelat," which crosses dance, circus, theater and performance in a participatory experience.
On Saturday, September 5, at 9 PM, at Alameda da EPI, the LUSO 7SÓIS-26 orchestra performs, an original production of the festival that brings together six artists from the various musical cultures of the Sete Sóis Sete Luas Network, including Hugo Osga on accordion, Fado singer Beatriz Felício, Stefano Saletti on bouzouki, Hernani Almeida on bass, Hamza Bouklifi on oud and Sami Pageaux on percussion.
On Sunday, September 6, at 6 PM, at Terreiro D. João V, the Andalusian company La Banda de Outro presents "Rodeo," a street theater show with acrobatics and acrobatic bicycles. At 7 PM, at the Claustro Sul of the National Palace of Mafra, the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet stages "Romeo Y Julieta." All shows are free, subject to venue capacity.
