Free guided tour revisits the memory of the fairs and markets of Torres Vedras

Jornal de Mafra31 August 2026 at 14:06

The Fairs and Markets of the Town become once again a theme of historical discovery in Torres Vedras, through a free guided tour scheduled for next Saturday, September 5, 2026, between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM. The initiative departs from the Torres Vedras Tourist Office and proposes a route through the old market areas of the town.

Throughout the visit, the importance and role that these spaces had for centuries in the economic and social life of Torres Vedras will be revealed. The fairs were meeting places and places for the circulation of news, where sellers, farmers and residents from different parishes crossed paths, dynamizing commerce and community daily life.

During the route, the urban transformations associated with commercial activity will also be observed, allowing an understanding of how these spaces evolved and influenced the development of the city over time.

Participation is free, but requires advance registration, with limited capacity of 20 people. Registrations can be made through the phone number 261 320 753 or the e-mail [email protected].

CAAA hosts exhibition by Tales Frey about consumption, memory and impact of the fashion industry

CAAA, in Guimarães, receives until October 31 the exhibition "When a Body is No Longer Present" by Tales Frey, which transforms discarded clothes into sculptures and installations that function as silent testimonies of human lives and experiences. The artist, post-doctoral researcher at the University of Minho, uses approximately one ton of rejected pieces to question fast fashion's accelerated production models and the environmental impacts of the textile industry, one of the most polluting in the world. The exhibition is part of a cycle of two solo exhibitions that also include "In Suspension," to be inaugurated in Lisbon on National Sustainability Day, and aims to stimulate critical reflection on body, consumption, memory and collective responsibility.
