The Serra da Estrela Interpretation Centre (CISE) alerted to the existence of traces of ancient episodes of torrents and flash floods in the Serra da Estrela region. The identification of these traces was made through the observation of fluvioglacial deposits.
According to CISE, these deposits were identified in the Alvoco and Beijames streams, as well as in the Zêzere river. The analysis of these materials allows researchers to better understand the geological history of the region.
The experts indicate that these deposits are probably compatible with periods of intense thaw, which suggests that Serra da Estrela went through phases of intense glacial activity and subsequent ice melt.
