The ministers of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Márcio Elias Rosa, and Foreign Relations, Mauro Vieira, meet this Monday (31st) with the United States Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer. The meeting will be virtual and is scheduled for the afternoon of this Monday, in Brasília time.
The Brazilian government's expectation is to reopen negotiations on the tariffs, which were suspended on July 14th. Last week, Márcio Elias Rosa stated that he expects difficult dialogue, given negotiations with the American government that dragged on for a year without major progress.
In July, the United States announced the decision to apply tariffs of 25% and 12.5% on products exported to the American market, with these rates being cumulative. Minister Márcio Elias Rosa acknowledged that previous conversations were already difficult.
According to the minister, the guidance given by President Lula for the resumption of talks is to address all topics, without restrictions, but preserve Brazilian interests in the negotiations.
