Russia placed Portugal among the most hostile countries in Europe towards the country. A representative of the Russian Embassy in Lisbon pointed to the Portuguese position regarding the war in Ukraine as one of the reasons for the deterioration of bilateral relations.
According to Russian diplomacy, relations between the two countries have been worsening significantly, with Portugal being identified as one of the European states with the most adverse posture towards Russia.
The representative of the Russian Embassy in Lisbon did not specify other European countries that would be on this list of hostile nations, but suggested that the Portuguese position regarding the conflict in Ukraine has been particularly contested by the Russian side.
This classification comes in a context of diplomatic tension between Russia and various European countries, particularly after the start of the war in Ukraine, which led several governments to adopt positions aligned with Kyiv and impose sanctions on Moscow.
