From 1 January 2027, rents in Portugal may rise by up to 2.56% if landlords so wish. This value represents the annual rent update coefficient, calculated based on inflation.
The inflation that serves as the basis for this calculation stood at 2.56% in August, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This indicator corresponds to the annual average of the CPI excluding housing.
Landlords can apply these increases to the various types of lease, including residential. The increase forecast for 2027 is slightly more significant than that applied in the current year, when rents rose by 2.24%.
