FROM VINEYARD TO MUSIC: RESIDENCY AT CASA DE MATEUS TRANSFORMS DOURO HERITAGE INTO SOUND

Canal N – Notícias – Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro31 August 2026 at 10:38

Casa de Mateus, in Vila Real, hosts an artistic residency that proposes an original approach to the Douro's wine heritage. The project is led by musician João Ricardo Barros de Oliveira, who during the residency transforms objects and materials associated with vineyard culture into musical instruments, exploring new sonic possibilities from elements linked to the region's identity and history.

The artistic process will culminate in the concert "Cordofonia," scheduled for October 5th at 4:00 PM, at Casa de Mateus. The presentation is part of the programming of the World Heritage Douro Festival, an initiative that marks the 25th anniversary of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro's classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The proposal crosses music, artistic creation and heritage, seeking to give a new dimension to materials traditionally associated with wine-producing activity and the Douro landscape. The project thus offers an innovative perspective on the cultural legacy of the Douro wine region.
