Sira Rego, Minister for Youth and Childhood, appeared this morning before Congress to explain her department's actions during the humanitarian crisis in Ceuta. On this occasion, the minister detailed the government's response to the situation in the Spanish autonomous city.
The crisis occurred on July 30, when approximately 70,000 migrants entered Ceuta, either by swimming or by walking along the border dyke with Morocco. This massive flow of people caused a humanitarian emergency in the Spanish city.
Rego described the situation in Ceuta as a humanitarian tragedy and called on lawmakers not to criminalize migrant childhood. The minister emphasized that migrant children are not invaders, advocating for an approach that respects the rights of minors.
