Combating the illegal market in Brazil necessarily requires border protection, given the size of the country's border area. This issue was debated during the "Illegal Market" seminar, an initiative of the newspapers Valor, O Globo, Extra and CBN, which brought together specialists to discuss strategies for confronting organized crime.
Professor Leandro Piquet, from the Institute of International Relations and coordinator of the Multidimensional Security School at the University of São Paulo (USP), participated in the event and highlighted the existence of routes controlled by criminal organizations that require special attention from authorities.
According to Piquet, the Brazilian border is completely different from European borders, being characterized as a porous and integrated border with neighboring countries. The professor warned that attempting to regulate products in Brazil without considering how this regulation is done in neighboring countries is harmful to the dynamics of national public security.
