The Mayor of the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Fátima Amorim, participated as a speaker at the conference "Transatlantic Relations and the Role of the Azores", held on August 27 at Terceira Mar Hotel, in Angra do Heroísmo. The event brought together political leaders, institutional representatives and experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities of relations between Europe and the United States, also featuring interventions by Paulo do Nascimento Cabral, Devin Nunes, Ana Isabel Xavier, Sebastião Bugalho, João Aguiar Machado and Artur Lima.
In her speech, Fátima Amorim defended that the Azores should establish themselves as a platform for security, knowledge, cooperation and development in the Atlantic. The mayor emphasized the importance of transforming the Region's privileged geographical position into concrete opportunities for people, businesses and young people, highlighting the historical role of Angra do Heroísmo as a city open to the world.
The Mayor also presented the proposal for the creation of a Transatlantic Platform for Science, Education and Innovation, aimed at bringing together universities, businesses and institutions from both sides of the Atlantic, promoting research, qualification and investment. Fátima Amorim reiterated the need to strengthen cooperation between the different institutional, academic and economic actors.
