The actor diagnosed with Alzheimer's who is now leading a solo show

BBC News Brasil31 August 2026 at 10:35

Actor Peter Marinker was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but continues to lead a solo show in London. He will perform alone, on a stage in the British capital, one of Samuel Beckett's most famous plays. The performance marks a singular moment in the actor's career, who decided to continue working even after the diagnosis of the neurodegenerative disease. The solo show allows Marinker to carry forward his theatrical talent in a performance that demands concentration and memory, even greater challenges given Alzheimer's. Beckett's play, one of the most well-known works of the Irish playwright, will be presented without the presence of other actors on stage, placing all the dramatic responsibility on Marinker's shoulders.

Portuguese Government grants public utility status to Ao Norte in Viana do Castelo

The Portuguese Government granted public utility status to Ao Norte – Association for Production and Audiovisual Animation, based in Viana do Castelo, through an order published in the Official Gazette. The association, which celebrates 32 years of activity in December, is dedicated to film club activities, training and audiovisual production, having established partnerships with the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo, local school groups, the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual and the municipality. This status allows access to tax benefits and government support, reinforcing the institution's social outreach capacity, which develops cultural projects such as the Encontros de Viana festival, the image workshop and the "Schools in Close-Up" program. The Viana do Castelo City Council had already approved the opinion for the attribution of the status in September 2024 and, in 2014, had awarded the association the title of Institution of Merit.
