The process investigating the alleged early electoral campaigning in favor of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) during this year's carnival is stalled at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) since February. The action was filed by the Novo Party, which questions the homage paid to the president by the samba school Acadêmicos de Niterói.
The reason for the impasse is a legal pending issue: no legal representative of the samba school was found so that the formal citation could be carried out by the TSE. Without this procedural step, the progress of the case is impossible.
The last of a series of diligences to locate the responsible parties for Acadêmicos de Niterói occurred on August 12, without success. The process remains stalled while the issue is not resolved.
