The beginning of September should bring a significant change in temperatures in mainland Portugal. After several days with values below average, the heat will intensify from Wednesday, September 2nd, possibly pushing thermometers back close to 40 degrees in some inland areas. The rise will be particularly evident between Wednesday and Friday, with significant differences between the coast and the interior.
On Thursday, September 3rd, some areas of the Douro Valley and Beira Baixa could reach 38 °C, Ribatejo could reach 37 °C, and Baixo Alentejo could approach 36 °C. On Wednesday, maximum temperatures are expected to vary between about 21 °C in Aveiro and 33 °C in Évora and Beja. Coastal areas between Porto and Leiria, as well as parts of the Algarve, may continue with more moderate temperatures.
According to the ECMWF model cited by Meteored, the Northeast Transmontano could register thermal anomalies of up to 8 degrees above average on Thursday. The heat should remain on Friday, September 4th, with similar or slightly higher temperatures in some inland areas.
For Saturday, September 5th, a significant and widespread drop in temperatures is expected, although the Douro Valley should continue with maximums above 30 °C. However, for Monday, September 7th, models point to the possibility of a new rise in temperatures, especially in the South and inland regions.
