The Order of Veterinarians and the Municipality of Torres Vedras formalized an adhesion protocol to the Veterinary Health Support Program for Animals at Risk, known as the Veterinary Voucher. This partnership aims to reinforce the municipal response in the protection and care of vulnerable animals in the municipality.
The program covers stray animals captured by Official Shelter Centers, cat colonies under municipal responsibility, and animals belonging to low-income families previously identified by the local authority. The included services cover vaccination, deworming, sterilization, clinical treatments, and 24-hour emergency care.
The OMV highlights that the success of the program depends on the adhesion of Veterinary Medical Care Centers to the Veterinary Voucher, allowing a collaboration between professionals and local authorities that strengthens public policies for animal welfare and public health.
With the signing of this protocol, Torres Vedras now formally integrates the national support network, expanding local response capacity and ensuring greater coverage of essential care for animals in risk situations.
