The President of the United States, Donald Trump, shared on Sunday an artificial intelligence-generated video on the social media platform Truth Social, simulating the destruction of the Iranian island of Kharg, Iran's main oil terminal. The images show storage tanks and an oil tanker exploding, seen from an aircraft, accompanied by a message celebrating the destruction.
The post came hours after the first US attack on Iranian targets in a month, which hit Larak island in the Strait of Hormuz. According to US Central Command, the bombing aimed to destroy rockets loaded with sea mines that Iran's Revolutionary Guard intended to place on that strategic route for world oil transportation.
In retaliation, Iran's Revolutionary Guard stated it had attacked with missiles and drones the bases of Al Azraq and King Hussein in Jordan. However, the Jordanian Army indicated that the air defense systems intercepted the eight missiles launched, without causing damage or casualties.
Kharg island concentrates most of Iran's oil exports and has been targeted by Trump's threats since the beginning of the war being fought by the United States and Israel against Iran. In July, a US bombing had already hit facilities on the island, causing the death of at least eight Iranian military personnel.
