Tomé Panazeite, an agricultural engineer, is the new provedor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Serpa (SCMS). He succeeds Maria Isabel Estevens, who had submitted her resignation at the end of July.
The SCMS by-elections took place last week. The list led by Tomé Panazeite was the only one presented and was elected with 49 of 55 possible votes.
The new provedor stated, quoted by the news agency Agência Ecclesia, that he expects months of hard work. He said he was awaiting the swearing-in ceremony to gain a real understanding of the state of the Santa Casa itself and to begin working immediately.
