Sánchez exonerates Morocco from the Ceuta crisis and insists on "hoaxes" on social networks "associated with Russia and Israel"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General31 August 2026 at 08:00

The president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, exonerated Morocco from any responsibility in the migratory crisis in Ceuta, which occurred a month ago. During an interview on Cadena Ser, Sánchez stated that there is no "information" from the security forces, the CNI or intelligence centers of other countries with which the Executive collaborates that suggests the participation of the Moroccan authorities.

According to the president, there was "instant and immediate" coordination with Morocco, with a deployment of Moroccan authorities on the other side of the border to deal with the avalanche of people trying to enter.

The Government is still investigating what happened and, above all, the causes of the crisis, but exonerates Morocco from any responsibility. Sánchez also insisted on the existence of "hoaxes" on social networks associated with Russia and Israel during the crisis.

Iran: Trump posts AI-generated video showing destruction of Iranian island of Kharg

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, shared an artificial intelligence-generated video on the social media platform Truth Social, showing the simulated destruction of the Iranian island of Kharg, Iran's main oil terminal. The post came hours after a US attack on Larak island in the Strait of Hormuz, which aimed to destroy rockets and sea mines belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guard. In retaliation, Iran attacked bases in Jordan, although the missiles were intercepted. Kharg island, which concentrates most of Iran's oil exports, has been targeted by Trump's threats since the beginning of the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran.
