Jailed for 20 years for mobile phone theft will finally be released

SAPO Notícias30 August 2026 at 22:15

Leroy Douglas was imprisoned 20 years ago after being convicted of stealing a mobile phone. After two decades behind bars, he is now preparing to regain his freedom and start his life over outside of prison. The case has been drawing attention to disparities in the judicial system, particularly regarding the length of sentences handed down for minor crimes. The moment of his release marks a new chapter for Douglas, who will have to readapt to society after spending much of his life in prison.
