SNS with 87% medical coverage

According to the ACSS (Administração Central do Sistema de Saúde), in Portugal, the SNS achieved 87% medical coverage. This month, 98% of those enrolled in primary health care met conditions to have family doctors assigned.

The ACSS report indicates that the number of users without an assigned family doctor has decreased significantly. Nevertheless, approximately 700,000 Portuguese citizens continue without access to a family doctor.

Primary health care is the foundation of the Portuguese health system, serving as the first point of contact for citizens with the SNS. The assignment of family doctors allows for more personalized and continuous monitoring of users.

The association ASJUBI40 has been running simulations to demonstrate the financial impact of these reductions. In Portugal, there is also no automatic elimination of cuts for those with more than 40 years of contributions, although there is a specific regime for very long careers that allows retirement without penalty from age 60 for those with at least 48 civil years of contributions.
