The first day of operation of the recreational bike lane for self-propelled vehicles along the South Zone waterfront of Rio de Janeiro was marked by doubts among users and guidance from agents of the Municipal Public Order Department (Seop). On Sunday morning (30th), cyclists and riders were approached to understand the new circulation rules.
In some cases, the equipment was subjected to speed tests during a checkpoint set up near post 11 in Copacabana. The waterfront also received an information structure to inform users about the established regulations.
For now, enforcement is exclusively educational, with no fines being issued. However, starting November 1st, those found in violation may be fined and even have their equipment seized by authorities.
The new bike lane spans 7.2 kilometers along the waterfront, expanding leisure and circulation options for self-propelled vehicles in the region.
