Socialist MP Isabel Moreira warned that the greatest danger to Portuguese democracy is the classical right ceding to Chega, in a speech at the political comeback of the Left Block (Bloco de Esquerda). The PS official considered that the AD (Democratic Alliance) government has appropriated the agenda of André Ventura's party, referring to the constitutional revision currently under discussion. This position comes in the context of the return of parliamentary political activity and tensions between parties over constitutional and programmatic issues.

PS leader accuses Montenegro of trying to whitewash chaos in national exams (W/AUDIO)

The PS leader, José Luís Carneiro, accused Prime Minister Luís Montenegro of whitewashing "the chaos in exams" at the national secondary level and of "being afraid of the Portuguese people," during a visit to the August Fair in Grândola. Carneiro criticized Montenegro for substituting himself for the Minister of Education to "affirm a reality that doesn't exist," noting that the percentage of candidates who entered higher education decreased compared to previous years. The socialist leader also considered that the prime minister should have thanked the PS for the financing and professional training programs left behind, referring to the situation as a "cuckoo" attitude that takes advantage of others' work. When questioned about Chega's motion of censure, Carneiro did not respond directly, but recalled that the PS awaits responses from the Government on education until September, threatening to proceed with an inquiry committee if he does not obtain responses.

Iceland rejects resuming EU accession negotiations

Iceland rejected in a referendum the reopening of accession negotiations with the European Union, with "No" winning with 52.8% of the vote against 47.2% in favor.
