The PS Secretary-General, José Luís Carneiro, accused the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, of whitewashing the chaos in the national secondary school exams this summer. The accusations arose during a visit to the August Fair in Grândola, in the district of Setúbal, and were directed at the speech Montenegro had just delivered at the closing of the 22nd edition of the PSD Summer University in Castelo de Vide, in the district of Portalegre.
Carneiro stated that Montenegro attempted to carry out the largest operation to whitewash what happened with the chaos in the exams and in the preparation of access to higher education by students. The socialist leader considered that only the attempt to whitewash access to higher education justifies that Montenegro substituted himself for the Education Minister to affirm a reality that does not exist in people's lives.
The Prime Minister was also advised by Carneiro to listen to the country and was accused of being afraid of the Portuguese people. This exchange of accusations arises in the context of failures detected in the national secondary school exams taken in the summer, which reportedly caused problems for students in accessing higher education.
