The hotels in Rio de Janeiro are worried about losing reservations for Rock in Rio to short-term accommodation platforms. The festival starts on Friday, and the hotel sector feels it is being outpaced by these platforms in attracting guests for the event.
Alfredo Lopes, president of HotéisRIO, publicly expressed the sector's dissatisfaction. He complains about the lack of equality between hotels and short-term platforms.
According to Alfredo Lopes, hotels face obligations that platforms do not have. Hotel establishments pay ISS, commercial IPTU fees and water tariffs, generate formal jobs and follow a series of strict rules for guest control and security.
