NASA has put into operation a new space telescope with a field of view a hundred times larger than the famous Hubble telescope. This capability allows observing a significantly larger area of the sky in each captured image.
The instrument was developed with the objective of mapping the Milky Way in an unprecedented way. Its advanced technology allows covering vast regions of the sky at once, something that previous telescopes could not do with such efficiency.
With just one month of observations, the telescope will be capable of mapping the Milky Way and detecting up to half of all the stars in our galaxy. This detection capability represents a significant advance in astronomy and in understanding the structure of the Milky Way.
