Estrela da Amadora's SAD was sold to an international consortium, with the club joining the group of Portuguese clubs with foreign owners. This transaction means that half of the Portuguese I Liga clubs now have foreign owners.
With this change, Estrela da Amadora joins Famalicão, Moreirense, Estoril, Alverca, Rio Ave, Santa Clara, Casa Pia and Académico de Viseu on the list of clubs with predominantly foreign management in the top division of Portuguese football.
In addition to these clubs with fully foreign capital, Sporting de Braga and Vitória de Guimarães have close to one-third of their capital in the hands of international investors, which further reinforces the presence of foreign capital in Portuguese football.
This trend of foreign investment in Portuguese football has been growing in recent years, with several I Liga clubs being acquired by international consortiums, significantly changing the national sporting landscape.
