Venezuelan President guarantees that the country "maintains property and sovereignty" over oil

SIC Notícias30 August 2026 at 10:57

The President of Venezuela assured that the country maintains property and sovereignty over its oil reserves, reacting to a controversial statement by Donald Trump. The Venezuelan leader's response comes following an announcement made by the then President of the United States.

Donald Trump announced that the United States would take control of 65 billion barrels of Venezuela's oil reserves, describing the alleged deal as the "biggest oil deal in world history". The mentioned value represents a significant slice of Venezuela's oil reserves, which are among the largest in the world.

The Venezuelan position directly contradicts Trump's statement, reaffirming that the country's oil resources remain under the jurisdiction and control of Venezuela. This dispute occurs in the context of historical diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
