GNR STRENGTHENS PRESENCE WITH BRAGANÇA TRADERS UNDER THE "SAFE COMMERCE" PROGRAM

Canal N – Notícias – Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro29 August 2026 at 10:28

The Territorial Command of Bragança of the GNR is reinforcing its presence with traders in the district under the "Safe Commerce" program, an initiative that places prevention and proximity at the center of the security strategy.

The action aims to raise awareness among those responsible for commercial establishments to adopt preventive behaviors and security measures capable of reducing risky situations and contributing to a safer commercial environment.

The presence of the military personnel also assumes a proximity dimension, allowing for direct contact with those carrying out their commercial activity and identifying any concerns related to the security of the establishments.

The GNR emphasizes that the security of commercial spaces results not only from the intervention of security forces but also from the adoption of good practices by traders, workers, and clients, with the proximity between the GNR and traders being an essential tool to anticipate risks.

Drive carefully in the Algarve: Faro is the district with the most cases of this scam in 2026 and victims are losing more than 15 thousand euros

The GNR warns of the growth of staged traffic accident scams in Portugal, with the district of Faro recording the highest number of cases in 2026, already surpassing the total for the entire previous year. Losses exceeded 72 thousand euros in the first half of the year, with a single victim losing 15,450 euros. The scheme involves following drivers as they exit parking lots, simulating a collision, and pressuring victims to pay quickly while avoiding police involvement. Criminals now use portable payment terminals to obtain bank cards and PIN codes, and specifically target drivers over 60 years old. The GNR recommends never handing over money immediately, photographing the scene and vehicles, and contacting police if suspicious.
