The São Conrado Free Flight Club suspended flights on Saturday (29) after the death of Army Colonel Álvaro Roberto Cruz Ferreira Lima, 63. The military officer was retired and fell from a paraglider into the sea at São Conrado Beach, in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone, on Friday (28). The military officer's family members were at the Medical Examiner's Office (IML) on Saturday, very shaken, and did not wish to give interviews.
The military officer was pulled from the water by Fire Department teams in cardiac arrest. After receiving first aid on the beach sand, he was taken in critical condition to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in Gávea. According to the hospital's management, despite the medical team's efforts, Lima did not survive.
According to information obtained by TV Globo, Lima had the habit of paragliding since he was young. He leaves behind a wife and four children. The case was registered at the 14th Police Station (DP).
