Nepal: Risk of new floods from dammed lake overflow decreases, according to local authorities

Nepalese authorities reported that the immediate risk of new floods caused by the overflow of a dammed lake on the border with Tibet has decreased. The lake was formed by the accumulation of debris in a river after a sudden avalanche hit the region last Wednesday. The damming reached overflow levels on Friday, interrupting rescue operations, which resumed when the risk was considered "controllable." According to a spokesperson for the Third Engineering Office of China Anneng Group, the water level dropped about 10 meters compared to Thursday, indicating that the lake is gradually draining and reducing the danger of a new flood.
