Three men suspected of having shot a 42-year-old Swedish tourist in downtown Lisbon turned themselves in to the Judicial Police on Tuesday, October 15th. The suspects present themselves as members of an organized group dedicated to robbing tourists, operating in busy areas of the Portuguese capital.
The Swedish tourist was hit by a shot during a robbery in the downtown Lisbon area, and was taken to the hospital with injuries. The incident generated great media attention in Portugal and Sweden, leading authorities to intensify investigations into criminal groups targeting tourists in the city.
Authorities revealed that the group used coordinated strategies to identify and rob tourists, generally in areas with high concentrations of people. The voluntary surrender of the suspects to the Judicial Police comes in a context of police pressure on these criminal groups.
