The Civil Police indicted the owners of a dog daycare and boarding facility called Pituchos da Lu, located on Rua Doutor Sousa Lopes, in Botafogo, in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone, for animal abuse. The investigation was conducted by Delegate Natália Caliman, from the 10th Police Station (Botafogo). The couple responsible for the establishment was called twice to give testimony but did not show up.
The case came to light earlier this month after a former employee presented videos, audio recordings, and messages that, according to him, document animal abuse situations at the establishment. Pet owners also provided accounts of what they allegedly witnessed.
According to the materials added to the case file, animals were chained in confined spaces, described as a kind of solitary confinement for animals that barked a lot. There are reports from other former employees who allegedly witnessed aggressions, in addition to pet owners who reported animals returned with injuries or in poor condition.
