The show that Elton John performed at Rock in Rio was one of just over two dozen presentations that the English singer, songwriter, and pianist gave after announcing his retirement. The performance was voted by O GLOBO critics as the best of the most recent edition of the festival. The artist, who is currently 79 years old, concluded three years ago, on July 8, 2023, in Stockholm, his farewell tour of the stages.
This farewell tour, called "Farewell Yellow Brick Road," totaled 330 shows around the world and raised nearly $940 million, ranking among the most commercially successful tours of all time. Since then, some of Elton John's performances have been traditional shows, while others took place at private events or fundraisers for charitable institutions.
Elton John was aware of his debt to Latin America, a continent that was not included in the farewell tour. The text indicates that this was the reason he decided to include the Rock in Rio show in his schedule after retirement.
